This week I’ve been working on a very interesting job refurbishing a Victorian staircase that had been panelled out in the 1950’s. Whoever did it had done a great job but the new owners of the house wanted it returned to the original design. It’s great to be doing some challenging joinery.
Each stair tread had to be extended over the string with the decorative bracket added and the new spindles fitted. The landing proved tricky with new nosing and re-drilling each spindle to suit the current building regulation distances. I could have got my head through the old spindle gaps. The newel post needed a new ball top and some drastic filling to smooth it out. The whole job will look fantastic when it’s painted.
